The short answer
Compare invoices and reports by location, method, exclusions and date. A general description of work is not a whole-home closeout record.
Start with the stated work
Read the actual description, date, location and provider identity. Ask for clarification when an invoice says only wiring repairs or pigtailing. A useful record explains what was included and which areas were inaccessible or outside the contract, without requiring the owner to interpret connector instructions.
Keep products and methods specific
Ask the qualified provider to document the selected method and relevant product/manufacturer basis for the actual application. Do not treat different device markings, connector products and repair systems as interchangeable. This site does not select a connector or supply installation directions.
Reconcile later changes
Ask whether subsequent renovations or equipment changes affect the earlier scope. Keep new records attached to the affected areas. A claim that the whole house was treated should be evaluated against the stated coverage and exclusions, not converted into a lower numerical risk score.
Bring the records into the Calgary process
For a Calgary property, confirm proposed electrical work and applicable permits with the City and a qualified contractor. Keep Ontario ESA technical background separate from Alberta authority requirements. Use the original scope, report dates and location list when asking for further review. Where the purpose is insurance or a transaction, give the actual documents to the appropriate adviser and record any unresolved question.
Make the next conversation specific
Prepare a short brief that identifies the purpose, material if confirmed, available records and planned access. Add one or two questions you want answered, such as which areas need further assessment or how a proposal addresses the original findings. Avoid uploading private policy details or making a whole-home certification claim from partial records. The online passport can organize the information you already know and send it with your follow-up request.
Keep the scope clear
| Part of the project | Ask for | Keep separate |
|---|---|---|
| Targeted remediation | Specified locations and suitable method | Unaddressed or inaccessible locations |
| Circuit replacement | Listed circuits and devices | Unchanged circuits and shared equipment |
| Broader rewire | Defined replacement boundary | Restoration and unrelated future loads |
| Panel upgrade | Panel/service equipment scope | Does not automatically replace branch wiring |
Questions to take forward
- Which locations were included?
- What method and equipment were actually documented?
- What changed after that work?
Common questions
Is a named connector enough to prove the house is remediated?
No. Ask the professional to document the actual application, completed locations, exclusions and relevant product basis. A product name alone is not proof of installation or whole-home coverage.
Does upgrading the panel replace aluminum wiring?
A panel upgrade changes the equipment and agreed service scope. It does not automatically replace the home’s branch circuits or resolve every connection. Ask for separate descriptions of the panel work and wiring work.
